Protecting Your Jeep’s Underside

Most Jeeps come factory with some protection for the basic parts underneath. The gas tank, transmission, and transfer case are usually among the factory protected. Sometimes the factory protection is insufficient and needs a bit of help and some areas are forgotten completely until carnage occurs. This article will attempt to cover (pun) those areas that may be potential weak spots in your Jeep’s bottom.

By use of strong skid plates, skidders, and armor you can increase the durability of your Jeep’s underside.

The following sections discuss options and methods of underside protection.

Driveline and Engine

  • Differential Covers
  • Bell Housing
  • Transmission
  • Transfer Case
  • Drive Shafts
  • Oil Pan

Suspension, Steering, and Exhaust

  • Leaf springs
  • U-bolts
  • Control arms
  • Shocks
  • Tie Rods
  • Steering Box
  • Mufflers
  • Tailpipes
