Hand Tools
Cutter and
Shear Tools
A cutter is a tool that uses two
blades to make a clean cut in an object using a pressure or
shearing force. These blades can vary from very sharp
fine blades to less sharp wider blades. Fine blades
are good for cutting soft or smaller objects such as hoses,
rubber, and material. Heavy blades are used for
cutting fasteners, wires, and other thicker objects.

Common types
Diagonal - Angled
head allows the user to get very close to the base
of the object being cut. Useful in cutting off
excess wire, wire ties, etc...
Lineman -
Heavy duty cutter usually multipurpose tool with a
pliers end. Long handles allow for greater
force to be exerted on the object being cut.
Useful for cutting small fasteners, heavy wire, or
cable.
Bolt - Bolt
cutters have longer handles and a compound leverage
mechanism in the head to allow the user to exert
great force with the cutting jaws. Useful for
cutting larger fasteners, locks, and metal rod.
Shears -
Shears also commonly known as tin snips are handy at
cutting thin aluminum or sheet metal. These
tools are similar in appearance and function to a
pair of scissors. |
