Continuing from Page 2 we are about to remove the front coil springs and proceed forward with the install.
Gently lower the axle and watch for anything to pull tight. Allow the axle to drop low enough to remove the coil springs. Remove the lower spring pads and install the new ones. Pay close attention to the parts to make sure they are installed on the proper side.
Lower Control Arms
The Mopar JL lift includes new front lower control arms that are slightly longer than the stock ones. These correct the front axle castor that is reduced by the lift. This correction will prevent the Jeep from wandering on the road when driving. Read more on caster/camber. It’s best to install these one at a time to prevent the axle from rotating.
It’s important to install the springs in the proper location as well as install the upper isolator properly. Consult the instructions and note part numbers. Place the bump stop extension within the spring and install the spring top first. A little prying may be needed to get the spring in place. Make sure to align the spring properly in the spring pad. Install the bump stop extension.
Install the shocks starting with the top side. With both installed raise the axle to meet with the lower shock bolt. Installing this way is much easier than trying to compress the shock. Install the new sway bar links, breather tube and locker wire. Raise the Jeep enough to allow the springs to support the Jeep’s weight.
Finishing Up
With the wheels back on and the Jeep on the ground have a helper steer the Jeep one side to the other to allow the installation of the track bar bolt. Recheck the tightness of all the bolts/fasteners from the kit. Check to make sure all tubes and wiring is attached. Test drive the Jeep and note any sounds or odd behavior. Recheck everything after some drive time.
Post Installation Thoughts and Follow Up
The Mopar kit retains the factory feel and look. Installation is easy and rather straight forward. Pay close attention to part locations since most of the parts have a set place to be installed. The Jeep drives well with this lift and has no odd behaviors. The Fox shocks are a bit stiffer and an unloaded Jeep can feel extra stiff over the bumps. We expect after a winch and some other accessories are added the Jeep may smooth out a bit.
At this point we have over 5000 miles on the lift and some off road use with no complaints. It’s probably best to get the Jeep aligned after the lift (we have neglected this but the Jeep drives nice).
