Continuing from page 1 we are installing a 2.5″ spacer lift from Rough Country on our 2018 Wrangler JL. At this point the front is completed and the rear is now in the focus. Rear installation is much easier since there are less components to deal with.
Similar to the front the rear should be supported to allow the axle to move away from the Jeep. Before allowing the axle to extend remove the lower sway bar bolt followed by the lower shock bolts. Remove the sway bar links, breather tube, and locker wiring (if equipped).
Gently lower the axle to allow the springs to relax. Observe the area watching for any items to pull tight. Remove the springs.
With the spring removed install the Rough Country spacer using the upper nut/washer and bolt. Tighten the spacer in place.
Install the bump stop spacer and shock mount extensions. Install the springs with the isolators and raise the axles to allow installation of the shock bolts. If you haven’t already remove the sway bar links and install the new ones.
Raise the axle further and attach the locker wiring and breather tube. Reattach the track bar and tighten everything to spec.
The wheels can be mounted and the Jeep placed back on it’s own weight.
A final item is to realign the steering wheel. Not doing so will cause the Jeep to drive funny since the steering wheel position is monitored by the Jeep’s computer. Adjustment is performed by loosening the clamp on the drag link and rotating the adjuster to alter the steering wheel orientation.
Test drive the Jeep and check everything after some driving.
