If you have a 4 door Wrangler that has a hard top you probably know the process to remove the top. It’s not really heavy but it’s super clumsy and too expensive to drop – and it’s a more than one person job. The Lange Originals Hoist-a-Cart makes this a one person job and does it safely. Plus, the cart is designed to store the top in an upright position to keep the space it takes up to a minimal.
The cart is nice since it allows the top to be removed anywhere and doesn’t require any kind of permanent installation that you might find with ceiling hoists and the like. Like anything, there is a compromise. Ceiling lifts can get the top up and out of the way when this cart requires floor space. Find what works for you.
Lange Originals makes several types of top removal/installation products and for us the Hoist-a-Cart was perfect. The cart allows flexibility in where the top is removed and allows the top to be moved around while storing it in a “least space used” way. We aren’t going to document the full installation or the operation. Lange has good instructions and really comprehensive videos. You should give them all a view before getting started.
Organize everything, there’s a lot of pieces and assembly takes about 2 hours. Power tools are nice!
When you have the cart finished there are some steps to getting the top ready for removal. Remove the freedom panels, the top bolts, washer tube and wiring plug. The top needs to be propped up in the front to install the straps, which are nicely bolted in place. The rear hook is put in place then it’s time for removal. Again…watch the videos.
We admit it’s a bit scary seeing the top suspended in the air but the Lange product is real nice and is well built.
