Leaking YJ Wrangler Transmission

Question: I have a 1987 Wrangler w/4cyl and ax-5 transmission. Leakingtransmission fluid (looking from front of jeep) from a hole that is machined in the case @ the passenger bottom left corner that mounts to the transfer case. Cannot figure why there is a machined hole in the case and how I can be leaking fluid from. Restoring the Jeep. thanks for your help. Gary

Answer: Gary, often the manufacturer adds extra mount points on eguipment in case it’s used in a different vehicle or application. But it should not be leaking from the hole. I’d guess that there is a crack inside the case that’s allowing the lube to escape via the hole. I think what I would do is get a proper sized bolt for the hole. Clean the lube out of the hole the best you can. Put some thread sealer on the bolt and put it in the hole and see if it stops the leak. Your other alternative is to pull the trans and check it out internally.
