If you answered the inner axle you were correct. Now what happens if you run your Jeep this way? Could anything be damaged?
Answer: You can and you won’t damage anything. The biggest problem is you will get gear oil leaking out of the axle tube from the differential. If you needed to run your Jeep in this way (possibly from a broken axle on the trail) stuff something in the tube to keep the oil in and get it fixed promptly.
