Question: My windshield hinge screws are rusted in place. I tried loosening them with a hand impact driver and only succeeded in breaking the nut loose from inside the frame. Anyone have any tips or procedures to share in removing these without destroying the nut inside the frame? Any ideas what to do when the nut is broken loose from it’s weld inside the frame? I need help, I’m at a complete loss here. William Garrett

Answer: These are tough to get by. The best solution, although a little late here, is heat. Heating up the bolt causes the rust bond to break allowing the bolt to be removed without breaking. We have a full article on removing stubborn fasteners. Check it out.
